It is hard to pen together coherent thoughts when things seem to be happening a million miles an hour. Today embarks a bitter sweet journey for me, my family, and my brother. In a Holy Spirit lead send off, we covered my brother with songs, prayers, and tears, as he goes to spend the next 18 months in the heart and heat of Iraq. His mission is extremely dangerous, and he has been chosen to lead about 40 other soldiers in providing safety for the rebuilders of Iraq. I cannot begin to describe my thoughts, desperate crys for safety, and showers of guided discernment for this man, a true Army Ranger, with officer class, who is undoubtedly and absolutely abandoned to God. I found myself almost mourning as if it were a living funeral. But, then I am reminded of God’s providence, even when my finite mind cannot understand. In everything-

Faithful!
Also, I have decided to go to Peru to help establish a base for future FYM’s, and work with AIM’s new missionaries Bob and Becky Cooley. This has been a very prayerfully considered decision, as I believe going anywhere else would be disobedience. Please continue to pray that God sets the stage, works out the details, and prepares me for this new adventure. I believe this will be a year where He teaches me to be independently dependent on Him.

Wow…I can’t really say I know how you feel, because I don’t. But I do know that it must be extremely difficult for you and for your family, but I will keep you and your brother in my prayers. I can’t imagine what that feels like, but we serve a very powerful God and that’s comforting. I’m glad you’re choosing to be obedient to the Lord in going to Peru. I would have loved to get to know you in Mexico, but the fact that you’re following Jesus is the most important thing. I’ll be praying for you. Let me know how everything is going. 😉
Rubie, that is so awesome that your brother Riley was chosen for this. He will be an example to his fellow soldiers, I have no doubt. And if you ever need me to pray for that in our weekly talks, do NOT hesitate to say so. My thoughts and prayers are with him.
With regard to your Peru decision, I know our brief chat last night pretty much covered how I feel about your doing this. You are ready for this, I know. And don’t worry about learning Spanish…you’ll have access to educators down there that will help you (it’s an easy language…why do you think I majored in it and picked it up so quick?). Like I said, you can always ask me to tutor you beforehand ;).
Luvs ya Rubes!
Rubie,
I was wondering what your email was or if you had instant messenger so that we could chat and get to know one another before we get to training camp. I look forward to hearing from you and I look forward to Peru; I am pretty excited about it.
